Working with Linguistically Diverse Families

Araujo, B. E. (2009). Best practices in working with linguistically diverse families. Intervention in School and Clinic, 45, 116-123.
Quality of service and service delivery to students with disabilities could improve greatly if educators had more information on how religion and spirituality positively or negatively affect students with disabilities and their families.  Increasing an understanding of cultures will increase positive relationships between professionals and students/families. Arajuo (2009) found that differences in culture between schools and families can cause misunderstandings and hinder relationships between IEP team members.  It's imperative that I address linguistic and cultural barriers as I complete my field study in another country at Karuna Home.
